Montreal, February 23, 2025 – It is with deep sadness that Mira announces the passing of Éric St-Pierre, visionary co-founder and pillar of the organization. Éric passed away peacefully on the evening of February 21, leaving behind an invaluable legacy and a grieving community.

Since its founding in 1981, driven by Éric St-Pierre’s passionate vision, Mira has transformed thousands of lives through its unwavering commitment to providing greater independence to people living with visual or physical disabilities, as well as children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). His bold vision and dedication allowed Mira to become a global leader in guide and service dogs, with over 4,000 dogs provided free of charge since the organization’s creation.

“Éric was much more than a founder; he was a mentor, an innovator, and a source of inspiration to everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. His love for dogs and his determination to improve the lives of people with disabilities were the driving forces behind every step of the foundation’s development,” said Philippe Angers, chair of Mira’s board of directors.

Éric St-Pierre always placed research at the heart of his work, convinced that the expertise developed with guide and service dogs could enhance and evolve all of Mira’s programs. More than a builder, he was deeply committed to the people Mira serves, sharing moments of profound humanity with them. His genuine care for every individual accompanied by Mira was reflected in his daily commitment, and it was this closeness that continually motivated him to push the boundaries of what was possible. At the center of this mission was the unique and indescribable bond between a dog and its recipient, a bond that fueled his passion throughout his life.

Since 2015, Nicolas St-Pierre, the son of the co-founders, has taken up the torch. He ensures that the organization continues to thrive while honoring its core values.

“My father was a true captain, always ready to face the storms and adjust the sails to lead Mira to new horizons. His spirit of innovation, resilience, and determination was the wind that carried this great journey. It is an honor for me to continue his work, staying true to his vision,” said Nicolas St-Pierre.

The St-Pierre family wishes to express their gratitude to all who supported him throughout his professional and personal life. In his memory, they encourage those who wish to make a donation to the Mira Foundation so that his legacy may live on.

In these difficult times, our thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire dedicated Mira team. Together, we mourn this immense loss while honoring the enduring legacy he leaves behind, carried forward through the ongoing work of Nicolas and his team.
